Oolong | Antioxidant power of tea

1. Oolong tea helps facilitate weight loss and prevent obesity.

The presence of polyphenols (complex phenolic hydroxyl compounds) in oolong tea activates the enzymes responsible in dissolving the triglycerides in the body thereby enhancing the rate of fat metabolism. Likewise, according to the study conducted by the Suntory Research Centre in Osaka, Japan regular drinking of oolong tea before meal reduces some of the fattening effects of eating foods high in carbohydrates by lessening the increase in insulin levels in the body.

2. Oolong tea is a natural source of fat burners and helps the body burn calories more than twice as much as green tea.

According to a study published in the Journal of Medical Investigation, consumption or drinking of oolong tea right after meal causes the body to expend (burn) calories by 10% as compared to only 4% of energy expenditure by drinking green tea..

3. Oolong tea reduces the signs of aging such as appearance of wrinkles and age spots on the skin.

The polyphenols in oolong tea act as anti-oxidants and help remove the free radicals that cause wrinkles and age spots in the body. Free radicals are substances in the body that are caused by pollution, chemical additives in the foods, ultraviolet rays from the sun, and stress.

4. Oolong tea helps prevent tooth decay and cavities thus strengthening the teeth.

A study conducted by the Department of Dentistry of Osaka University in Japan showed that polyphenols as well as flouride in oolong tea, not only reduces the signs of aging, but also help in the prevention of tooth decay and occurrence of cavities.

5. Oolong tea has anti-viral and anti-bacterial effects.

The anti-oxidant components in oolong tea help the body have a stronger immune system and lessen the risks of contacting infections.

6. Oolong tea has lesser caffeine content than coffee.

Although caffeine is a natural ingredient of tea, a cup of oolong tea contains only half the amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee.

7. Oolong tea helps the body maintain clearer skin condition.

According to a research by Shiga University of Medical Science in Japan and was published in the academic journal of Archives of Dermatology, the anti-oxidants and nutrients present in oolong tea help the body maintain clearer skin within one month of continuous drinking of oolong tea.

8. Oolong tea can prevent some allergic reactions. To find out if tea could benefit patients with atopic dermatitis, researchers in Japan recruited patients with atopic dermatitis who had not respond to other treatment. The patients were instructed to continue following their treatment plan and to drink one liter of oolong tea every day. The liter was to be divided into thirds so that one-third of it was drunk after each of three meals. Of the 118 patients who completed the study, 63% showed marked to moderate improvement after one month. This effect was first noticed after one or two weeks.
